I have a '99 Black Savage purchased in Feb 2000 for 3700 with 0 miles. The weather in PA is terrible for bikes right now so only have about 600 on it. Sounds like you got treated fair with yours. Be sure to change oil at 600 and don't forget to torque the head bolts inside and adjust valves and decompression. It sounds to me, from what I read on the forum, that a lot of Savages are leaking oil because they are not being tightened down correctly. Get a good repair manual and it will explain all.
